Democrats defending civil liberties... Or are they?

The New Hampshire House has passed a bill that would make gay marriage legal. The bill still has to be approved by the Senate, but, if that happens, it is still not clear whether Democratic Gov. John Lynch will sign it. Lynch has previously stated his opposition to same-sex marriage.
We call on governor Lynch to sign the bill (if passed by the Senate). It would be a good sign that Democrats not only talk the talk, but actually walk the walk on civil rights and liberties.

Bigotry will not save Republicans

It seems clear by now that Republicans haven't learned anything from their electoral defeats. Instead of reaching out to new segments of the electorate, party leaders and figures are preaching the same old divisive message to please a narrow-minded right-wing minority of extremists. The last example comes from Vermont, where Republican Governor Jim Douglas has said that he will veto a gay marriage bill, already passed by the state Senate, and currently waiting for a vote in the House.
