      Green energy

The world economy is at a crossroads. Conventional sources of energy are polluting our environment at an alarming rate and warming our planet. Moreover, reserves of oil are not going to last forever and the origin of much of those reserves puts America’s national security at risk. Therefore, it is essential to find alternative ways to produce energy and power the world economy. While the idea of becoming energy independent is a myth (we will always need to import energy from other countries and there is nothing wrong with that as long as the sources come from reliable allies), we should nonetheless expand America’s capacity to generate energy at home.

Oil drilling is a way to start generating American energy, but a policy solely based on oil drilling is not the answer. First, there are not enough oil reserves in the United States. Second, oil is not the future, but the past. America needs to aggressively start a green energy revolution:

  • expanding wind energy capacity;
  • taking advantage of the incredible solar power resources in the Southwest;
  • providing incentives to companies that invest in renewables,
  • developing new technologies to make the energy sector more environmentally-friendly.

While the private sector will always be the engine of innovation, government can play a crucial role by investing in new green technologies and creating incentives for private enterprises to dramatically expand the production of renewables and promote energy efficiency. “Drill, baby, drill” is not an energy strategy. Oil is necessary but is also part of the past; renewables are the key to energy security and environmental protection
